Eloquent as always and proving that she is an authentic role model, Zendaya showed gratitude and reassured young people that there is hope.

She said:

I just want to say thank to the TV Academy, to all the other incredible women in this category. I admire you so much. Whoa, this is crazy. Thank you HBO and A24 for all your support. Thank you to my family and my team, who’s all here. I’m grateful to have all of you here.

And then she addressed the younger generations:

I know this is a really weird time to be celebrating, but I just want to say there is hope in the young people out there. I know that our show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that, but there is hope in the young people. And I just want to say to all my peers out there, doing work in the streets: I see you; I admire you; I thank you. Thank you so, so much.

Fans were quick to congratulate Zendaya on her win, including actress Reese Witherspoon.

Emmy Diversity

Zendaya’s win also brings more diversity to the Emmys. She’s the second black actress to win her category after Viola Davis made the breakthrough in 2015 for How To Get Away With Murder.

There was more diversity of winners at this year’s awards, with 10 out of 19 performing categories won by black actors.

This brings further hope for the future with issues such as colorism, something Zendaya has been vocal about. Zendaya is setting a great example making her integral to a more optimistic future for the younger generation.
